About the founders
![]() |
Adam Berk is the founder of neighborrow.com. He has been a "serial entrepreneur" since he was young... while other kids were selling lemonade on the street, He was hawking Honey Nut Cheerios (get it?). neighborrow.com is an amalgam (or to keep things consistent with "serial entrepreneur", "a brainchild") of most of the things he is interested in, has been affiliated with, or just flat out loves. He has a degree in economics from Emory University, experience trading (stocks- not CDs, DVDs and household items), and a great affinity for travel, photography, golf, movies, music, and surfing (ok fine, web surfing). In addition to what he hopes neighborrow will do for you, (by saving you money, reducing the clutter in your homes, even introducing you to new friends) and for the environment (by reducing waste through sharing and directly, by donating a portion of our profits to environmental causes) neighborrow will allow him to share HIS FAVORITE THINGS, with HIS FAVORITE PEOPLE, in HIS FAVORITE PLACES all over the WORLD! We hope you like the IDEA... |

engine37 is an expert design firm. They were able to design our logo when we told them we wanted a "cup of stuff." Engine37 also designed the larger "cup of stuff" on the index page as well as the three "us" icons located on the upper right of the index page. Engine37 created the artwork for the magnifying glass and also the map. Engine37 designed all of the "cups" on the index page. Engine37 provided the design elements for the registration page and also produced the about us page with the content and the image we gave them.

We are using Endicia.com to integrate postage into neighborrow.com. We are encouraging local transactions but using the mail to neighborrow is still better than buying, renting, going without, or wasting. Now you can print out postage and labels directly from the site and drop items in the mail directly from your home. You can even track the packages.
Our friends at ZeeMaps are helping us out with all of our GOOGLE MAPPING needs. Not only will they provide utility by making it easier to locate neighborrow-hoods that already exist near you, but they will provide a some fun as well. Instead of selling that stack of books by the pound or one by one on the online auction sites, put them on "permalend"(?) with neighborrow. You still technically own these items but now you can track them all over your state, the country, or the world while other people enjoy them. Books are just an example, you can permalend anything! Take a look at this example of stuff the founders have lent out and where the items have wound up (coming very soon). Or just look at this example.
Camp Towanda was a home away from home for both founders for many many summers. We are hoping that Camp Towanda is one of the premier virtual neighborrowhoods so that everyone affiliated with this great place can now share more than just great memories!
While Semester at Sea* ® is neither affiliated with nor a sponsor of neighborrow.com, we hope it will be another charter neighborrow-hood. Founder Adam Berk was on the SS Universe Explorer in s99 and will personally verify every member of the SAS neighborrow-hood. neighborrow can be used during the voyage to borrow books or movies during those long ocean crossings or camera accessories while in port. After the voyage, we can all share our DVDs and similiar items through the mail. It is also a great way to keep in touch. A personal note, I sincerely believe that anyone with the opportunity should study abroad with Semester at Sea. (*Semester at Sea is a registered mark of the Institute for Shipboard Education.)

HowsMyNanny.com "is a service run by a New York prosecutor of child abuse and sex crimes who is also a mother of two. Through this site, parents can now purchase a license plate for their stroller that enables the public to anonymously report good or bad nanny observations. Registered parents receive a confidential email alerting them to the report.Featured on Good Morning America and Fox News National, HowsMyNanny.com has been hailed as a program with the makings of one of the fairest solutions heard on how to get some feedback on the quality of childcare while you're gone."
We at neighborrow love this site for many reasons but mostly because it was founded by one of our own neighbors and it encourages people to behave responsibly and to be held accountable for things they do offline (in the real world). It would be nice if everyone behaved the same way "when no one is looking" but its nice to be able to use the Internet to rely on those extra eyes when you can't be there yourself. The Internet allows for a sort of "collective accountability" and while your stuff is not nearly as important as your child, we also use similar methods of holding people accountable for what they do. We also agree with HowsMyNanny that the system is not necessarily contingent upon punishing bad behavior, rather it encourages and rewards good behavior.
